Treatment in the Spirit of Giving

There are thousands of children and families in Western New York (WNY) who battle behavioral, emotional, and learning problems, including Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and other oppositional disorders. These psychological disorders affect children and their families at school, at home, and throughout their communities. The increased use, and possible over-use, of psychoactive medication that many families use to treat children with ADHD has received a great amount of attention from the media, social organizations, and the federal government.

At the Center for Children and Families (CCF), we provide clinical services that address these concerns, in addition to conducting a number of research studies that provide participants with treatment at no cost to the family. Although we work with medication, we prefer to use it as a last alternative, instead emphasizing a psychological approach to working with children and families with ADHD. With a proven track record of treatment for more than 2,500 children and families, we offers personalized comprehensive treatment for each child's behavioral, emotional, and learning problems. Through the use of behavioral treatments in school and camp setting, along with parent and teacher training, we help children to develop social skills, improved academic performance, self-esteem, and behavior control, and also attempt to limit the amount of medication that each child needs.

Based on its excellence in providing treatment for children with ADHD, our Summer Treatment Program (STP) has won numerous awards from national professional organizations and has been featured in local and national television news programs, newspapers and magazines.

Unfortunately, we have a very limited budget with which to conduct our services. Local health insurers do not provide coverage for them and SUNY-UB has only limited ability to subsidize it. Thus, the program relies entirely on parental payments for its existence. We attempt to keep costs at a minimum in order to allow as many WNY families as possible to have access to the program, but the cost remains out of reach for many families. In addition, federal budget cuts have resulted in decreased funding for our research projects as well.

This is where we feel that you may be able to help. A donation from you would assist us in continuing to offer quality evidence-based services to the WNY community. Any donation that you could make would be greatly appreciated by our program and the families we serve.
